Brunei is a very exotic country for some and it is living up to its name. It is one of the richest nations in the world but keeps itself very peaceful. It is a country of lush rainforests, golden mosques, gentle Bruneians, and yes, delicious food!
Gadong Night Market is situated in the Gadong district of Brunei's capital, Bandar Seri Begawan. Stalls begin to start selling their specialty delicacies at around 4 in the afternoon and goes on until the evening. It is best to visit it as it starts so you free away from the crowd plus to make sure you can taste everything while they're displays are still full.
Here are some of the goodies we tried! Note that 1 Brunei Dollar is equivalent to 0.75 US Dollar.

Spicy Fried Chicken over Rice ($2 BND)
Nasi Katok - Rice, Fried Chicken, and Sambal wrapped in Banana leaf and paper ($1 BND)
Assorted Fruit Drinks ($1 BND) and a variety of Noodles ($2-3 BND)

Even if we are neighbors from Brunei, it is not very known as well in our country as a travel destination so it was very nurturing to be there :) Oh and Margaret I remembered you yesterday when a special mail arrived that surprised me! I sent a greeting to Jacinda Arden on her daughter's birthday and she sent me a mailed response with an autograph! I was so happy!

DeleteThere are all kinds of delicious dishes on site, my friend Stevenson. If I compare it to the price of one meal in Brunei, there is not much difference in price with food in Indonesia.

I've finally posted about Porto and the Lello bookshop that inspired the Harry Potter’s library in Hogwarts, as J.K Rowling lived in Porto teaching English in the early 1990s.
That is very true Sami, it is not really much of a holiday place, not short of beauty but because of the mobility for budget travelers like me and my friends. Good thing we met a Filipino couple who gave all of us a day tour around the city which we're very grateful for :)

No wonder the oceans of the world are full of plastic crap. All I see are plastic containers and straws. It is unbelievable how we continue to use this stuff.

It was a bit surprising for us actually when we visited and saw all the plastic at styrofoamsin the market because in the Philippines, the initiative to stop the use of those started years back before 2018, especially now that most of us have bought our own sets of reusable cutleries and straws and cups.
DeleteSuch an interesting and colorful place! I imagine that the market does not look the same now with Coronavirus. My photo shows a very old Bald Eagle-- probably 20+ years old but still going strong with his second mate over the 13 years I have been following the nest.

And surely those new protocols are doing well because Brunei has a very low case of the Corona. I am so amazed by the bald eagle and the bobcat and the birds on flight on your post last week Kenneth. I am so grateful to be able to see your shots!
