Frozen in Tianjin - Timeless Thursdays 20

Me above the Frozen Hai River in the City of Tianjin

We visited the City of Beijing in Northern China, the country's Capital City, last Winter at the beginning of January 2013. On our third day, January 11, 2013, we decided to visit the nearby City of Tianjin miles away southwest of Beijing. Via the Bullet Train running at the maximum speed of 295 kph, we arrived at the Tianjin Central Station just 30 minutes from Beijing! It was our very first experience riding the Bullet Train.

Me, My Dad and my Ate Judy had so much fun during our day tour around the Beautiful frozen City. Though smog was rampant it added to the beauty of the city (for me). Here are some of the pictures we shot while doing our walks around the City's downtown.

Me posing on a Beautiful Intersection lined up with French Styled Buildings

While waiting for Daddy at the Restroom, munching on this weird Meat Wrap that tastes sooo good!

Me and Daddy at the Italian Style Town looking for the Starbucks Shop to get my Mug.

Daddy on a smoggy Tianjin afternoon in front of Tianjin's Iconic Clock.

Just before leaving, outside the Train Station

I love the streets of Tianjin and these houses reminds me of Movies shot in New York

Tianjin is a beautiful City which is a mixture of Chinese Culture and beautiful French and Western Architecture. The weather was really cold and I really like it so much! One of the reasons why I love such weather is that I can wear clothes that I cannot wear in the heat of my Philippines! I just wish someday I can spend winter again on a very cold place such as China, such as the quiet-in-winter city of Tianjin.

Never Stop Dreaming!
Steven :)

  2. 295 km/h?! Oh, dear Stevenson, help! And you´re having your jacket open?! No hat?! Glovies?! Brrr.....
Well, it seems to run in the family, you don´t get cold easily, do you!
    Cool clock!
Wonderful you can enjoy time with your Dad, I could not, we always did fight. He once won a journey to the US and wanted to take me along. Last moment I said "no" and my Brother went on my name...
We were just too much alike, Dad and I. Two stubborn donkeys...

    1. hahaha you are so right dear Iris! I looooove the cold! So as my Dad :)
Oh we are the same, I also fight with my dad always but its a wonder that we do not especially when we travel, we get along well because he listens to me (yes, he is very traditional like "I'm the Dad I know better" which always gets in my nerves but when we are away from home he usually listens to me so all good hahaha
Oh! It would have been amazing for you to visit the US. I remember you dad had journeys to Japan as well, I remember your beautiful kimono costume!!!

    2. Indeed he won the journey also because he sold a certain amount of I-don´t-know-what (he was a goldsmith, watchmaker, optometrist and also audiologist). I was 13 back then, a grumpy teenager, LOL!

  3. Wow! China was such an eye opener for me - we had SO much fun. I had such an incorrect idea of what it would be like. You're photos are also so different to what I would expect. That smog is a little much!

    1. I am so amazed with the way you describe China Lydia because that is exactly how I felt as well when I arrived, truly an eye opener and a different world that what has been perceived by people about it.

And you are right truly, all that smog is just scary but yes also pretty to the eyes, not for the lungs for sure.

  4. Nice memories Stevenson. Looks like you experienced lots of fog on your visit. I like fog, it adds mystery to a photo. Love that clock in the background of one of the photos. I am glad that you and your dad have a wonderful time when traveling. Not everyone has that experience. I never did and wish I had. Thanks for sharing your memories of this trip, it was nice to read about it. Have a wonderful day and stay safe. We are heading to level 4 tomorrow with more restrictions, the numbers are getting too high. :(

    1. Thank you so much my friend Bill and yes, you are absolutely right on your description on fogs, they are so beautiful on photos and add so much air of mystery to it. I am grateful for the experience of travelling with my father and I always pray that he has a longer life so we can travel again when the pandemic is over. I am so sad to hear that you are heading back to level 4. Please please be extra careful brother Bill. I'm praying for you and your family there in Dungloe.

  5. Great photos. That looks amazing, I'd love to visit. Loving the bow tie too :-D

I have to say, it looks very cold! If you like the cold, you'd be okay in Autumn and Winter in Scotland then :-D Though it rains so much here too! We Scottish always complain about the rain....you think we would be used to it by now haha!

    1. Oh thank you so much dear Ananka! I always hear that it is always raining in britain like 200 days a year and more in Scotland haha though I know why you guys complain, anything too much is just not cool hahaha

      Delete
    2. Oh Scotland gets the rain way more than England for sure! Yes, we will never have drought over here for sure. I honestly think the West of Scotland must be one of the wettest places on Earth! BUT we have the best water, so fresh and so clean from our taps in the home :-D

    3. Oh that sounds very nice! I remember in France and Italy that the water was clean on the tap so I need not buy water for drinking :)

  6. I would love to visit China someday. Nice photos. It looks like you had a super visit, and it is much different than I imagined. And I just LOVE your bowtie. Very styling. Hope all is well with you. Hugs-Erika

  7. Dearest Stevenson,
Lovely memories of you with your Dad in China!
It must have been awfully cold as you stood on the frozen over Hai River!
Not wearing any hat, nor gloves makes me feel chilly by even looking at you... Your black tie looks 'cool' but sure did not add any warmth.
Great concrete Colonial Architectural influences indeed. But it always was about Power, those Anglo-French Opium Wars against China...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. You are so right dearest Mariette, it was super cold and the bowtie did not do any warming, I had no scarf hahaha I let my dad use mine. But the thermals did a good job I must say :) Yes! I have read about the Opium wars in Tianjin and how it shaped the city on what it looks like now :)

  8. Oh what an almost ethereal looking city in the smog! I couldn't go there as I am asthmatic and it would not do my old lungs any good! I love the clean air here in New Zealand...
Don't know that I could enjoy the cold as you obviously do :) One day, I have promised myself, I will travel, but for now it has to be within New Zealand!!
    Stay safe

    1. Thank you so much Jackie. Oh! My friend sure knows how I love the cold weather but for him to discourage me visiting during the winter says it all! Especially during his first winter there last year, OMG he was literally wearing 5 socks but still can't warm him enough! Kinda scary haha

  10. You look very smart with the bowtie :) I'm not a big fan of the cold weather to travel, but I suppose sometimes it has to happen. I wasn't expecting an Italian style town in China :) That clock is beautiful.

    1. Thank you so much dear Sami! Oh I love cold weather but depends on the cold, I also have limits though and you are right, it is hard to travel during winter, I was just lucky to see Europe during winter because my friend has a house there and I was able to bring lots of clothes and not bring it with me as I travel along haha

It is super beautiful Sami! It's the city's symbol :)

  13. I wanted to take a day trip there when I was in Beijing, but there was too much to do in Beijing. Thanks for the peek. I wonder why there's a mix of architecture; it reminds me of Dalian, which has an architectural mix because of how it used to be part of Russia.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh I agree with you and Beijing is just so HUGE! the subway system alone is just crazy! Oh and about the architecture, I think it's mostly the influence of the French when they settled here during the colonial period.

  14. Beautiful memories and photographs! I rather agree with your sentiments about cold weather. The only way we can escape the heat is resting in the shade or by using energy-intensive air ventilation and conditioning. In the cold we merely put on another layer of clothing and continue on our way. Of course there are limits to how cold I would like it and also prefer the changes of season. Here in Florida thee is often mild (and occasionally slightly chilly) weather during mid-winter, but most of the year is hot and often humid.

    1. I am with you my friend Kenneth! I guess we have the same weather here and in Florida based on the plants that I see from blogs about your state there. But I'm sure there's is better because the heat here during summers are starting to be so bad! But you are right there sure are limits on the cold as well no matter how I love it haha

  15. That last photo of you alone is so beautiful, so pensive. What a wonderful visit and all the more special because you were with your father. I'd give anything to be able to travel with my parents again. We're getting ready to go into our cold winter season but the autumn leaves have been spectacular. I need to get myself together to join in the meme but I think it will have to wait till next week. Lots of lovely links there.

  18. You are so right about that street scene, Stevenson, as it doesn't look like China but someplace in any other large city! I really liked the photos of you and your father, how wonderful to have shared this experience together. And when I saw the first photo I wondered about the bow tie and whether or not you were going to a formal affair, great wardrobe accessory!
