Memories of Oslob

Before I start my post, just want to tell everybody to stay safe, especially us here in the Philippines whose COVID-19 cases are at all time high (we never got to experience to be away from lockdown since March last year. It eases up but never fully because the cases just never got down , been uphill since it started last March).

Oh and also, after last weekend I was on a big scare because I felt feverish and very dehydrated since Sunday morning until Tuesday Night and I can't think of a culprit until I realize that having too much Chia seeds is not very good! I should have searched for a recipe for my overnight oats and not just dumped them chia seeds on it because it takes up to 17x times water of its weight! So long story short, I literally just dumped around 5 tbsp. of the chia from the foil pack into my oats and then chilled it overnight, then feasted without any idea what's to happen!

I never felt so dehydrated in my entire life! I'm thinking it's the Chia working inside my body taking all the water inside me! NIGHTMARE! Slowly I'm getting through it. Had a big 2L Pocari Sweat and water every hour. Alright, that was my first time with Chia. Not anymore in the near future HAHA

Okay on to the post!

This Thursday, I thought of throwing back to one of our group's most memorable adventures within the country. Last 206, we flew all the way to the central Philippine island of Cebu. It is a popular island not just in the Philippines but around the world because of it's beautiful beaches, rivers, waterfalls, and the whale shark experience.

Let me share some of my favorite photos from this unforgettable trip.

I just love piers and docks!

  1. oh yeah I'm guessing now thinking about it that chia seeds will do that to you if you have too much, I mean they do swell up in your tummy when you've eaten them but hope you feel better now.

    1. Thank you so much dear Amy! I felt so scared because I felt so dehydrated and having hot flashes on my skin when thankfully I don't have fever because we all know why it's scary to have a fever these days.

I'm still not on top shape but a lot better now than earlier this week. Thanks Amy!

  2. That waterfall is lovely! Having swum with whalesharks, I can say as cool as that photo is, it doesn't do justice to the expereince. They are so magnificent!! I bet you love that memory!! Hope you are ok. That all sounds very worrying!! Keep safe and evidently, go easy on the chia!!

    1. Oh you said it perfectly Lydia! To be honest I felt a bit bad to have these whale freinds become an attraction (I think it has been stopped now on that site) because they are being exploited in a way and at the same time their natural habitat is disturbed but of course, I wouldn't miss the chance because I was already there. They were so gentle and felt so unreal because they are huge like cars on the water!

Thank you so much Lydia! Staying away from Chia for the mean time. I'll keep my oats plain with milk and yogurt haha

  3. Dearest Stevenson, this sounds so darn awful. A whole year in lockdown!!!
Chia Seeds, oh, you...!!! But I admit, it´s just a side note on the package!!! I was lucky to read it at all! Boy, am I glad I did (I hate reading this stuff, no idea why I did it?).

Ohhh. The gang looks like a very happy gang! And, weee, yes, piers, looking out into the wide, I love that, too! Your expression shows it all, great pic.
Huh, that shark is close. Cool!
Great last pic, thanks for another journey!
I just went for the desert for today, quite the opposite, dear Bro, LOL!

    1. Waaaaa very very good that you read it dearest Iris! Because it felt so bad to be so dehydrated. But still I am thankful to be able to trace it that it's the culprit for it hahaha

Oh yes! We are all crazy especially when we are all together! We are now beyond our 30's but we still act like children when we are all together hahaha

Looove the Desert post dearest Iris!!!

  4. I had no idea chia seeds could do that to you, that would have been scary!
I was lucky to have been to Oslob and the whale shark experience in December 2018. They are magnificent animals, but sadly because I don't dive I stayed in the boat taking photos and filming.
The only drawback was the ferry trip back to Panglao when I felt so sea-sick!
Take care, very sad that your Covid numbers haven't diminished. Hope the population has started to be vaccinated already...

    1. That is true dearest Sami, it felt really awful but glad I get hydrated slowly with the help of Pocari Sweat. I am so so thankful you were able to see the Philippines and so as your family! I felt so sorry though to hear about your sea-sickness from Oslob to Bohol, that was quite a distance compared to what we did for a ferry from Cebu City to Bohol.

thanks Sami! Numbers are still on the rise! Vaccinations are so slow, a lot of frontliners still haven't received their shots

  5. First of all, I am glad to hear you didn't have anything worse than too many chia seeds, but I am sorry to hear how bad Covid is right now. That sounds scary Stevenson. Things here are a little better, and in some places things are opening up. It's too soon I think, but I also understand how people just want to be back out in the world again. Cebu looks amazing, and those whale sharks are really cool. I would want to do that, but I am sure those poor sharks get sick of people going in. Thanks for sharing and introducing me to a new place. Hugs-Erika

    1. Thank you so much dearest Erika! You are right, the COVID cases are so high! You are right, even I went out time to time with full precautions to see my friends and family outside the house. And thank you for such an amazing roadtrip to the Dakotas!

  6. That's interesting about the chia seeds. I had no idea! You be careful with escalating cases. Ours in Michigan are going up too and I think it will be worse after spring break. I'm so relieved you did not have Covid. Please take special care. (And I loved your trip to Cebu.)

  7. What fun memories you have traveling with your friends! Wonderful photos - my favorites are the one of you underwater with the whaleshark (very cool!) and the one with your mind far far away. Have a great week!

  8. Wow, beautiful landscape! Love the first capture too:) Have a great weekend, and thanks for your admission of slurping from a saucer when you were a little kid:):) Jesh

  9. What delightful company and endearing photos! The whale shark is impressive but obviously not a threat. I ope the COVID turns the corner for you soon. We are now on a rather high "plateau" and the variant COVID strain is surging just as the spring break is tempting hordes of college students to visit Florida.

  11. Jeez what a terrible time for you. I have never tried Chia seeds, so no idea about them. I really get dehydrated easily so I drink plenty fluids...mainly coffee, tea and water!

Sorry about the covid cases. Scotland is doing okay. They are easing at the end of April. Need to see what happens.

Great photos and wow with the Whaleshark experience! Great shot :-D

  13. I must admit that I have never had chia seeds in anything and after reading about your experience, Stevenson, it's doubtful that I ever will. What a nightmare that was just in reading your description of your experience. Glad it was not covid-related and unfortunate to read about the increased lockdowns. You and your group of friends seem to have the best experiences traveling and it's nice to be able to look back on happier times and travel.

  14. Thank you for the reminder on chia seed. Have not tried it before but might consider. Miss travelling. One day, hopefully.

  15. Oh dear, what a Chia Experience you had! I only put 1 teaspoon on my oats, add liquid, and leave it to soak for around 15 minutes and that seems to work.
    Love your travel photos :)
